PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording medium superior in wear resistance, sliding resistance, and corrosion resistance.SOLUTION: The problem mentioned above is solved by the perpendicular magnetic recording medium which has a backing layer, a foundation layer, an intermediate layer, and a perpendicular magnetic recording layer laminated in this order on at least a nonmagnetic substrate. The perpendicular magnetic recording medium is characterized in that the backing layer has at least a soft magnetic film having an amorphous structure, and the foundation layer comprises a first foundation layer and a second foundation layer laminated from the side of the nonmagnetic substrate, and the first foundation layer comprises a TiV alloy in an amorphous structure, the second foundation layer comprises a NiW alloy including one or more elements selected from a group consisting of Co, Cu, Al, Cr and Fe, the intermediate layer includes Ru or a Ru alloy, and the soft magnetic film, the first foundation layer and the second foundation layer are provided in this order in contact with each other.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
