PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charged particle accelerator which is capable of installing a hot cathode type electron gun within an accelerator body by using laser light as heating means of the electron gun, and capable of transporting a beam with high efficiency.SOLUTION: The charged particle accelerator for accelerating charged particles comprises an acceleration cavity 10 and an electron gun 20. The acceleration cavity 10 includes an outer conductor 11, and a pair of acceleration electrodes 12 that are provided within the outer conductor 11. The pair of acceleration electrodes 12 include beam passages 13 and are disposed oppositely to each other, thereby forming an acceleration gap G between the acceleration electrodes. The electron gun 20 includes a hot cathode material 21, a laser light source 23 for heating the hot cathode material 21, and a heat absorptivity enhancement material 22 that is attached to the hot cathode material 21 for enhancing heating by the laser light source 23. The hot cathode material 21 is then disposed within the beam passage 13 of the acceleration electrode 12 in the acceleration cavity 10.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
