Apparatus and method for providing enhanced telephonic communications

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, device that determines a presence of a first communication device being nearby and engaged in an active voice call with a second communication device. An offer to transcribe a portion of the active voice call is presented in response to the determination. An audio portion of the active voice call is transcribed in response to an acceptance of the offer, to generate a textual transcription. The textual transcription is provided for presentation on a first display device. In response to detecting a presence of the first communication device being nearby another device, provision of the textual transcription to the first display device is discontinued, while the textual transcription is provided to the other device for presentation at a second display device. a memory that stores executable instructions; and a processor coupled to the memory, wherein the processor, responsive to executing the executable instructions, facilitates performance of operations comprising:
determining a presence of a first communication device being nearby and engaged in an active voice call with a second communication device;presenting, in response to determining the presence of the first communication device being nearby and engaged in the active voice call, an offer to transcribe a portion of the active voice call;transcribing audio of the portion of the active voice call to generate a textual transcription, responsive to receiving an acceptance of the offer to transcribe the portion of the active voice call;providing the textual transcription for presentation on a first display device;detecting, during the active voice call, a presence of the first communication device being nearby another device; andin response to detecting the presence of the first communication device being nearby the another device, discontinuing the providing of the textual transcription for presentation on the first display device, wherein the textual transcription is provided to the another device for presentation on a second display device.
