A flexible light transmissive multi-layer thermal insulation element 2 comprising first 4 and second 6 air-impermeable outer layers and an inner fibrous wadding layer 8. The outer layers 4,6may be substantially non-porous films or membranes which may be polymeric, preferably a fluoroethylene polymer such as ethylyene tetrafluoroethylene. The fibrous wadding 8 may also be polymeric and may be polyethylene terephthalate. The inner fibrous wadding 8 may have a light-transmittance of at least 15% and the overall insulating element 2 may have a light-transmittance of 14% or higher. The fibrous wadding 8 may be interleaved with further inner separating layers which may be polymeric. The element 2 may further comprise an optical brightening agent. Also included are structures comprising first and second elements 2 linked along the edges 14, the use of an insulation element or insulation structure for insulating thin-shell structure and a tensile structure comprising a tensile fabric supported by a rigid structural anchor and an insulation element 2 or insulation structure. |
