PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of shortening the time of the calcination process of a diffusion layer in a technique of manufacturing a gas diffusion layer of a fuel cell.SOLUTION: A diffusion layer formation paste used for forming a gas diffusion layer 40 of a fuel cell includes a conductive particle 32, a surfactant 34, a water repellent agent 36 and a titanium oxide 38 having a specific surface area of 100 m/g or more. The diffusion layer formation paste can lower the temperature required for the thermal decomposition of the surfactant 34 and shorten the time required for the thermal decomposition of the surfactant 34 because the titanium oxide 38 functions as a catalyst when the surfactant 34 is thermally decomposed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
