PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of operating a laboratory sample distribution system.SOLUTION: A laboratory sample distribution system (100) comprises one or a plurality of sample containers, as sample container carriers. The sample containers comprise samples to be analyzed by means of a predetermined number of laboratory stations (20, 21, 22). The laboratory sample distribution system (100) includes a transport plane (110). The transport plane (110) is adapted to support the sample container carriers. The transport plane (110) comprises a predetermined number of transfer locations (30, 31, 32).
