The present invention relates to a mining system including a data communications network. Mining assets communicate information with each other over the network. Each mining asset includes a decision making device for facilitating decision making based upon the information received from at least one other mining asset. Preferably, the decision making device onboard the asset is a single retrofitted device that makes all the automated decisions otherwise made by a driver thereby improving hardware mounting efficiency and avoiding duplication of tasks otherwise performed by multiple systems.
