The refrigerator according to an embodiment has a compressor, a condenser, a main pipe, a bypass pipe, an opening and closing mechanism, a temperature measuring unit, and a control unit. The main pipe has a first end and a second end. The main pipe sequentially connects the first end, the compressor, the condenser, and the second end. The bypass pipe connects a portion of the main pipe between the condenser and the second end, and the compressor. The opening and closing mechanism is provided to the bypass pipe. The opening and closing mechanism switches the bypass pipe between an open position and a closed position. The temperature measuring unit measures the temperature of the refrigerant discharged from the compressor. The control unit controls the opening and closing mechanism. The refrigerant includes HFC-32, HFC-125, HFC-134a, and HFO-1234yf. The control unit brings the opening and closing mechanism into the open position if the measurement result of the temperature measuring unit is a first temperature, and the control unit brings the opening and closing mechanism into the closed position if the measurement result is a second temperature lower than the first temperature. |
