The invention relates to a method of conditioning a biodegradable wastewater stream (19) by means of three series-connected chambers (6, 7, 8), wherein the wastewater stream (19) flows into a first chamber referred to as contactor (8), thence into a second chamber referred to as captor (7), and then is fed to a third chamber, referred to as reactor (6), which is in free liquid communication with the captor (7) and is operated cyclically in a ventilation phase (23), a sedimentation phase (30) and a clear water removal (31), and wastewater together with activated sludge is conveyed from the reactor (6) in the form of a recirculation to the contactor (8). In order to improve the method, the contactor (8) is supplied continuously with wastewater which, in the contactor (8), by means of a ventilation system (16), experiences uninterrupted supply of atmospheric oxygen, and the ventilation system (16) regulates a supply of atmospheric oxygen into the reactor (6) as a function of a respiration rate of the wastewater in the captor (7), which is determined via the change in the oxygen content of the wastewater over time in the captor (7) in the same cycle. |
