PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform detection of the home position of an image reading unit and detection of opening/closing of a pressure plate at low cost.SOLUTION: An image reading device includes a contact glass 101 on which a document is placed, a pressure plate 204 for positioning the document on a contact glass, a carriage 102 and a photo interrupter 107 which are reciprocated between a home position and a reading end position, a first shielding plate 105 which is fixedly arranged along the moving path of the photo interrupter and can be detected by the photo interrupter, an imaging element 306 for reading an image of the document, and a second shielding plate 106 which is disposed at a detectable or undetectable position interlockingly with an opening operation or closing operation of the pressure plate. The controller 300 performs control of moving the carriage to a position where the photo interrupter can detect the second shielding plate when setting from a normal state to a power saving state, and the power state is set from the power saving state to the normal state when the photo interrupter detects the opening of the pressure plate based on the state of the second shielding plate.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
