According to the preset invention, a temporary control point group (intermediate points P1, P2, ···) is set with respect to a cross sectional image. Then, a candidate route (e.g., candidate route L1) which passes a temporary control point (e.g., intermediate point P1) selected from among the temporary control point group and which connects an end point Pa on one side to an end point Pb on the other side is generated. A candidate route group (candidate routes L1, L2, ···) is generated by sequentially varying the temporary control point to be selected. An evaluation value (e.g., total sum of pixel values) for each candidate route is calculated on the basis of the pixel value column on the candidate route. The best route is selected from the candidate route group based on the evaluation value. The best route is used as a cut line for extracting a notable tissue image. Alternatively, the temporary control point selected when the best route is generated is used as a control point that defines the cut line. |
