The method involves generating an XML description (56) associated with a man-machine interface, where the XML description includes a description (60) for each view of a display window, and a description (62) for each view state defined by the view of the display window and an identifier of a subsequent view state. A current view state of the display window is displayed on a screen (42). The identifier of the subsequent view state is obtained from the XML description in response to a user action, and successive views of the display window are displayed in accordance with XML description.
