PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet capable of exhibiting large coercive force with good reproducibility while using a Sm-Co based magnet having a composition of high Fe concentration.SOLUTION: A permanent magnet of an embodiment comprises a sintered compact. The sintered compact has a composition represented by a compositional formula, RFeMCuCo(where R represents at least one element selected from rare earth elements, but Sm accounts for 50 atom% or more thereof; M represents at least one element selected from Zr, Ti and Hf; and p, q, r and s are numbers satisfying, by atom%, 10≤p≤13.5, 28≤q≤40, 0.88≤r≤7.2, and 3.5≤s≤13.5, respectively), and a metallographic structure including a cell phase and a cell-wall phase which is present to surround the cell phase. The sintered compact has a density of 8.2×10kg/mor larger. In the cell phase, Fe concentration (C1) is in a range of 28-45 atom%. |
