PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine controller capable of achieving both of improvement in startability of an engine and suppression in degradation of PM emission at a time of engine restart.SOLUTION: An ECU 40 of an engine provided with a plurality of cylinders including an injector for injecting fuel in the cylinders determines a first cylinder for which a compression stroke injection can be executed at the earliest timing after initiation of starting among the plurality of cylinders when the engine automatically restarts from an automatic stop state under idling stop control. For the first cylinder, a compression stroke injection is executed at first fuel injection after initiation of starting, and intake stroke injection is executed as the second or following fuel injection after initiation of starting for the first cylinder. For a second cylinder other than the first cylinder, the intake stroke injection is executed as the first fuel injection after initiation of starting. |
