Disclosed is a novel D-succinylase which has high hydrolytic activity on N-succinyl-D-amino acid and is capable of producing D-amino acid with high yield on an industrial scale and in a period of time suitable for commercial production when combined with succinyl amino acid racemase. Specifically disclosed is a protein which is characterized by being one of the following (a)-(d): (a) a protein that is encoded by a gene comprising the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 2, 4, 6 or 8; (b) a protein that comprises the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1, 3, 5 or 7; (c) a protein that has D-succinylase activity and is encoded by a polynucleotide which hybridizes with a nucleotide sequence complementary to the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 2, 4, 6 or 8 under stringent conditions; and (d) a protein that has D-succinylase activity and comprises an amino acid sequence produced by substituting, deleting, insrting and/or adding one or several amino acids in the protein that comprises the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1, 3, 5 or 7. |
