PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus which enable heavy oils such as coal tar, coal tar pitch and petroleum pitch to be rapidly and stably cooled, although the method is simple.SOLUTION: A method for cooling heavy oils A, B flowing in piping using a heat exchanger 1 is provided in which the heavy oils A, B are cooled in a stagnant state and the heavy oil B is discharged from the heat exchanger 1 after the heavy oil A is cooled. The heat exchanger 1 is also provided that cools the heavy oils A, B using a heat transfer tube 2 having a ratio (L/D) of tube length L to tube diameter D of 5 or more. The heat exchanger 1 for heavy oil has a mechanism for blocking a flow of the heavy oils A, B and cooling them while the heat transfer tube 2 is filled with the heavy oil A and discharging the heavy oil B after cooling.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
