A current limiting circuit for a motor controller includes a comparator (20). The comparator has a sensed current input (24), a current threshold input (22), and an overcurrent protection trip output (26). A variable resistance current threshold circuit (30) is connected to the current threshold input. A first controller (40) is connected to the variable resistance current threshold circuit via a plurality of connections. The first controller is configured to control a voltage output of the variable resistance current threshold circuit.
