PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that adaptation control for adjusting exhaust pedal cannot be properly started if a variable valve device immediately before start is not in an ignitability improvement mode when starting an internal combustion engine by bringing the variable valve device into the ignitability improvement mode.SOLUTION: In this start control method of an internal combustion engine in the case where an ignitability improvement mode is selected at a start of the engine 10 which is incorporated with a variable valve device 13 which can switch a normal mode at which an exhaust valve 13b is opened in an exhaust stroke, and the ignitability improvement mode at which the exhaust valve is temporarily opened even in an intake stroke, the start control method starts the engine in the normal mode when the variable valve device immediately before the start of the engine is not in the ignitability improvement mode, switches the variable valve device to the ignitability improvement mode when hydraulic pressure reaches a value at which the variable valve device can be switched to the ignitability improvement mode after a prescribed time elapses after the start of the engine, and adjusts the pressure of exhaust emission which flows to an exhaust passage 28a from a combustion chamber 10a.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6 |
