[Class 38 (iii)] In order to effect the series to series-parallel, and series-parallel to parallel transitions of a six motor equipment by the bridge method, the motors 1-6 and starting resistances c-h, are arranged in groups, one group comprising two motors 1, 2, permanently connected in series and with associated resistance c on the negative side, another group comprising two motors 5, 6, permanently connected in series and with associated resistance h on the positive side, and two further groups each comprising a motor 3 or 4 with associated resistance connected, one half e or g on the negative, and one half d or f on the positive side. After the starting resistances have been shortcircuited and the full series position attained the series to series-parallel bridge transition connections shown in Fig. 3, are established, the connections between the resistances c and d, e and f, and g and h being thereafter interrupted to give the series-parallel connections. When the resistances have been short-circuited to give the full series-parallel connections the series-parallel to parallel bridge transition connections shown in Fig. 6 are established, the connections between resistances c and f and e and h being thereafter interrupted to give the parallel connections. The arrangement may be applied to equipments with a number of motors which is a multiple of six. |
