<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove a high oxidation capacity substance included in exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: A fractionator 11 is arranged for fractionating a carbon particle agglomerate in the exhaust gas by applying a voltage to an engine exhaust passage on the upstream side of a particulate filter 14. The high oxidation capacity substance included in the exhaust gas is stuck to a carbon particle by agitating the carbon particle by sending the carbon particle fractionated by the fractionator 11 into an exhaust turbine 7b.
