PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent decrease in transmittance or decrease in display qualities caused by positional deviation of upper and lower substrates in a liquid crystal display device using an electrode having an opening.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate disposed to oppose to each other, a first electrode having a plurality of openings 18 and disposed on the first substrate, a second electrode having a plurality of second openings 19 and disposed on the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The plurality of first openings and the plurality of second openings each have such a shape in a plan view that a plurality of portions extending in two or more directions different from each other are joined at an end of each portion; and the first openings and the second openings are each alternately arranged into a checkered pattern in a first direction that is not coincident with at least two directions of the above two or more directions where the plurality of portions extend, and in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction. |
