PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting method of a high-pressure discharge lamp capable of avoiding occurrence of an arc jump, prolonging the lifetime of the high-pressure discharge lamp and also avoiding occurrence of a defect or disturbance in a projected image by avoiding precipitation of mercury in an internal space of a luminous tube part of the high-pressure discharge lamp, and a lighting circuit.SOLUTION: In accordance with a luminance parameter P of image contents C, power to be supplied to a high-pressure discharge lamp X is changed and even if power to be supplied becomes minimum, a temperature within a luminous tube part 18 of the high-pressure discharge lamp X is made higher than a precipitation temperature of mercury. |
