PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that when there is a periodic pattern in data obtained by TTL system or non-TTL system focus detecting means, a plurality of focal candidates are calculated, so that a normal focusing target position is not acquired, further, in the case of using only video-AF with respect to an object having the periodic pattern, since a focal point having maximum contrast is searched, quick focusing cannot be attained.SOLUTION: An autofocus device includes: means for detecting a position of a focusing lens group; means for driving the focusing lens group; phase difference system focus detecting means; means for acquiring contrast of a captured image; means for determining a focused state on the basis of the contrast; means for determining a periodic pattern of an object, on the basis of focus information obtained by the focus detecting means; means for setting a target position to drive the focusing lens group; and focusing direction determination means. When there is the periodic pattern in the object, a direction of a focal point is determined, and a target position is set in the determined direction of the focal point, the focusing lens group is driven toward the target position, and then, the focused state is determined by the focus detecting means. |
