The invention relates to a gas burner (5) for a cooking area (2) comprising a gas shut-off valve (44), a burner housing (7) which can be fixed to a gas supply line (8) of the gas burner (5), and a burner head (6) which can be displaced relative to the burner housing (7). The burner head (6) can be displaced from an open position into a closed position for selective opening and closing of the gas shut-off valve (44), wherein the burner head (6) is pretensioned in the direction of the closed position with the aid of a spring arrangement (33). The burner housing (7) and/or the burner head (6) have at least one primary air supply opening (52) for supplying primary air into a mixing chamber (41) of the gas burner (5).
