A plurality of battery assemblies 1 are located in respective buildings near an energy meter 12 and consumer unit 11, each battery assembly comprising power storage, control electronics and communication means for communicating with a remote service 17. Each battery assembly is configured to charge its power storage and acts as both a hub for local power demand monitoring and a local DC power supply for one or more building circuits comprising a DC socket 28, a DC lighting circuit 25, and/or a micro-inverter AC resource. The battery assemblies are connected to said circuits using existing lighting circuit wiring. The plurality of battery assemblies are managed as a collective resource in aggregate via the communication means. The charging of the battery assemblies may be scheduled in accordance with a demand from local end users, power usage measurements, or the availability of power generation resources. The system may determine the profile and type of end device 29,30 power usage, which may comprise USB power delivery via a DC socket, and manage the said end device by reporting maximum and minimum power load, switching off or putting the device into standby when not used, or deferring the charging of a battery of the device. |
