This paper sheet stacking apparatus is provided with a rear end detector, a first conveying part, a second conveying part, and a stacking part. The rear end detector detects the rear end of paper sheets that have been conveyed at a first conveying speed from upstream. The first conveying part changes the path of the paper sheets by pushing the rear end surface of the paper sheets detected by the rear end detector in the thickness direction of the paper sheets. The second conveying part: reduces the speed of the paper sheets to a second conveying speed, which is lower than the first conveying speed, while sandwiching the rear end of the paper sheets, the path of which has changed as a result of being pushed by the first conveying part, between the first conveying part and the second conveying part; and sends the paper sheets out by releasing the paper sheets due to being separated from the first conveying part. The stacking part stacks the papers sheets sent out by the second conveying part. |
