A dispenser (figure 1, 10) for cut lengths, or strips, of a material suitable for folding or creasing, comprising a guide 18 for directing the material 16 through the dispenser, a cutter 22 for separating the material 16 into desired lengths, a folder 24 for folding an end of a strip, a link 21 to cause movement of both the cutter 22 and folder 24 when either one is moved a pre-determined distance, and a drive mechanism (figure 11, 40) to activate the cutter and/or the folder, wherein the drive mechanism can cause movement in two directions, one direction actuating cutting of the material and the other direction actuating folding. In another embodiment, the dispenser has a tray (figure 26, 68) for collecting dispensed lengths and a dabber (figure 26, 76) for selecting lengths from the tray. In a further embodiment the dispenser has two complementary reaction surfaces (33, 32), the second 32 of which can be moved towards the first into a folding position in order to sandwich and fold a strip of material. The material may be foil, and the strips may be used for colouring or highlighting hair. |
