A strip-form cathode (4) having a mixture layer consisting of hydrogen storage alloy disposed on a core material and a strip-form anode are wound spirally via a separator to constitute an electrode group, and this electrode group is housed in a bottomed cylindrical container with the cathode (4) forming the outer-most peripheral portion, wherein a portion corresponding to a cathode outer-most peripheral portion (5) is formed as a thin-walled portion and this thin-walled portion is curved in an arc shape in the winding direction of the electrode group in advance, whereby the cathode outer-most peripheral portion is prevented from separating from the electrode group when the spiral electrode group is formed and an inserting performance into the bottomed cylindrical container is improved.
