PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of synthetic quartz glass capable of producing synthetic quartz glass in a high yield.SOLUTION: A production method of synthetic quartz glass includes: a molding step for molding a synthetic quartz glass preform into a molding having upper and lower surfaces and a side surface; an intermediate production step for forming a dummy part by depositing dummy quartz glass on the upper and lower surfaces and the side surface of the molding, and producing an intermediate with a dummy; and a dummy part removal step for removing the dummy part of the intermediate with the dummy, to thereby obtain the synthetic quartz glass.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
