A bearing cap 14 for attachment to a cylinder block 16 comprises a receiving portion for a crankshaft bearing and a contact portion 20 for contacting the block. At least two projections 22, 24 extend from the contact portion for positioning the cap on the block. Each of the projections comprises a first contact surface 26, 28 which, when the cap is attached to the cylinder block, contacts a surface 64, 66 of a receiving portion 46, 48 in the cylinder block. The projections also have a second non-contact surface which does not contact the receiving portion. The projections may be in the form of pegs. The projections may be integral with the contact portion and may be formed by machining or sintering. Also claimed are an assembly comprising a cylinder block having a receiving portion which is stepped, a method of assembly and a vehicle comprising a bearing cap. |
