In the present invention, there is described a controlled release composition containing a physiologically active substance in high content, suppressing the initial excess release, and achieving a stable release speed over a long period of time. The controlled release composition of the present invention comprises: (1) an LH-RH luteinizing hormone releasing hormone derivative or a salt thereof in an amount of about 3 to about 24 percent by weight based on the total composition weight; and (2) a polymer composed only of lactic acid or salt thereof having a weight-average molecular weight of 17 000 to 26 000 in which the content of polymers having molecular weights of 5000 or less is about 5 percent by weight or less. The above-described pharmaceutical composition is useful for the use as a prophylaxis or medicament for the treatment of prostatic cancer, prostatic hyperplasia, endometriosis, uterine myoma, uterine fibroma, precocious puberty, and dysmenorrhea or breast cancer or as a contraceptive agent. |
