<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gelling agent for imparting high thixotropic viscosity to the gel-like composition of a solvent or an oil, and to provide a high thixotropic viscous composition. SOLUTION: A gelling agent comprising a polysaccharide benzoate wherein the hydroxyl groups of the polysaccharide are substituted by 0.1 to 3.0 benzoyl groups per constituting saccharide molecule. A high thixotropic viscous composition containing the gelling agent. A cosmetic, medicine, quasi-medicine, coating or ink containing the high thixotropic viscous composition. The high thixotropic viscous composition has excellent extensibility and adhesivity, and is excellent as a base material for the cosmetics, medicines, quasi-medicines, coatings and inks.</p> |
