[Class 50.] Repeatedly ignitable matches comprising an easily inflammable substance incorporated in a body of organic combustible material which sublimates below about 260‹ C. such as hexamethylene tetramine and metaldehyde and ignitable on frictional contact with a surface covered with an oxygen developing substance have the constituents so arranged that the inner parts of the match are richer in active substance than the outer parts. The active substance 2 may consist of a central or an annular core as shown surrounded by a sheath of combustible material 1. Some of the active substance may however be contained in the sheath and the core may include combustible material. In an example a core comprises amorphous phosphorus, black antimony sulphide, metaldehyde, nitrocellulose, pulverized glass and sand and a solution of celluloid in acetone mav be included. The body material may consist of 87 per cent of metaldehyde and 13 per cent of celluloid. A suitable striking surface consists of a mixture of sodium chlorate, lead peroxide and stearic acid or acetylcellulose. To reduce the burning speed the match may be coated with a substance of higher burning temperature or with tin or other metal foil melting at the flame temperature. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the provision of a strengthening layer of cotton impregnated with borax or paraffin wax and shown as a ring embodied in the active substance or separating it from the outer body. A match with three cores of active substance spaced equidistantly from the centre is also shown. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
