PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of confirming whether or not piping is completely cut when cutting the pipe by a pipe cutter while still being in a feried state. SOLUTION: In this pipe cutter 1 having a cylinder 2 rotated around a shaft by being inserted into the pipe P and the cutter 6 housed in this cylinder 2 so as to freely project from the outer peripheral surface and cutting an inner wall surface of the pipe P by projecting the cutter 6 from the outer peripheral surface of the cylinder 2 while rotating the cylinder 2 around the shaft in the pipe P by an external driving device 20 having a geared motor M, an ammeter A is connected to the geared motor M, and cutting of the pipe P is detected by detecting that a value of an electric current flowing to the geared motor M becomes almost maximum by this ammeter A.
