PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the structure of an image projecting optical unit, and also, to project a bright clear image. SOLUTION: A color light generating means 5 is constituted of a lamp 2, a reflector 3 and a rotary mirror 4. A red reflection dichroic film 7R, a green reflection dichroic film 7G, a blue reflection dichroic film 7B are arranged on the rotary mirror 4. By rotating the rotary mirror 4, the illuminating light from the lamp 2 is made incident on a polarized beam splitter 9 as component color light. The incident color light is split into S polarized light component and P polarized light component through a polarizing layer 9a, then, the reflected S polarized light component is made incident on a reflection type liquid crystal display 12. The gradation image of the incident color light is displayed on the reflection type liquid crystal display 12 in synchronism with the rotation of the rotary mirror 4. The color light reflected by the display 12 and simultaneously converted from the S polarized light component to the P polarized light component is made incident on the polarized beam splitter 9 again, then, the light is transmitted through the polarizing layer 9a, thereafter, the light is projected on a screen through a projecting lens 13. |
