NON-INVASION SOFTWARE BREAK POINT IN PROCESSOR INSTRUCTION EXECUTION PIPELINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing system on an integrated circuit equipped with a microprocessor and a peripheral device together with an emulation unit that can perform the debug and emulation of integrated circuit at the time of connection to an external test system. SOLUTION: A microprocessor 1 has an instruction execution pipeline equipped with plural execution stages related with fetch/decoding units 10a-10c for the unit of function execution. Since the pipeline of microprocessor 1 is not protected, corresponding to a system program code stored in an instruction storage device 12, the latency time of memory access to a data memory 22 and a register file 20 can be utilized. An emulation unit 50 performs operation through a method for avoiding a state such as the occurrence of non-related operation to affect memories 22-23 or peripheral devices 60-61 during emulation.
