摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device capable of improving power consumption and also capable of easily enhancing a color temp. in a white display in the front surface of the device without accompanying the lowering of a front surface luminance by providing a polarizing plate via a ruggedness type scattering layer whose haze value and 60 degree-gloss value are respectively in specific ranges at the light source arrangement side of a transmission type liquid crystal cell. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device has a polarizing plate 3 via a ruggedness type scattering layer 31 whose haze value and 60 degree-gloss value are respectively 1.5-15%, 35-85% at the light source arrangement side of the transmission type liquid crystal cell and has a polarized light separating plate and a quarter-wave plate as necessary. In this device, a light transmission plate 4 emits an incident light from the light source 41 arranged at the side face of it from the upper surface via the bottom surface of it or the like and the outgoing light is linearly polarized with the polarizing plate 3 to successively transmits (initially) the ruggedness type scattering layer 31, a liquid crystal cell 2 and a visual side polarizing plate 1. Together with it, when the return light reflected on the metallic plate or the like being in the liquid crystal cell 2 is made incident on the ruggedness type scattering layer 31, it is subjected to Rayleigh scattering and the light of one part of the scattered light is again made incident on the liquid crystal cell 2 and transmits the cell 2 to be added to the initial transmission light to perform a display.
