Battery-fed sensor assembly with reduced standby current

A sensor circuit comprises a voltage supply terminal (13) coupled with a supply capacitor (14). A switching regulator (1) is coupled between a supply battery (9) and the supply capacitor. The switching regulator is regulated in a power saving mode so that the battery voltage supplied to the capacitor is decreased. A microcontroller (15) is provided for controlling the sensor circuit and the switching regulator so that the switching regulator is inactive when the sensor is activated. An independent claim is included for method for operating sensor circuit.
