Effective cathodic protection of steel reinforced concrete structures is provided by spraying the alloy material on the concrete surface with the alloy being delivered in the form of a wire having a circularized sheath and a core of powdered alloying material. With the present invention, the wire can be formed easily and inexpensively without the brittleness and breakage problems encountered when wire is drawn from billets. Moreover, the wire alloy specification can quickly be changed or altered to suit both the environmental characteristics of the application as well as the characteristics of the concrete structure itself. The core is contained in a circularized partially compressed aluminum strip sheath with the balance of the alloy being contained within the core and easily altered to change the specification of the alloy as the wire is formed on a continuous basis either by roll forming or draw forming.
|
