1. A method of rendering a thermoplastic polymer resistant to biofilm formation comprising:
incorporating said thermoplastic polymer with a curable composition comprising:
a mixture of an alkene-based formulation sufficient to adhere to said substrate surface when polymerized;a polymerizable halogenated aryl compound of structure A: wherein R1, R2, R3, R5, or R6 represents Chlorine, Bromine, Hydrogen, or an organic moiety selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, alcoholic, etheric, thioesteric, esteric, amido, amino, thiol, urethane, and acid anhydride, wherein R4 is a hydrogen, methyl group, or methacrylate, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R5, or R6 is Chlorine or Bromine; and wherein Z represents Oxygen; andproviding an energy source sufficient to polymerize said polymerizable halogenated aryl compound; polymerizing the curable composition into said thermoplastic polymer, such that the curable composition renders the surface of said thermoplastic or thermoset polymer resistant to biofilm formation and having a roughness that approximates electropolished stainless steel. |
