<p>PURPOSE: To suppress water gas shift reaction without bringing reduction air-fuel ratio control accuracy upon. CONSTITUTION: The Ce carrying rate G1 , G2 , G3 of three catalytic converter rhodiums 1, 2, 3 (1 is an engine side, 2 is a center side, 3 is a muffler side) which are arranged in an exhaust passage 5 in an internal combustion engine is set to G1 >G2 >=G3 >=0. G1 is set to a prior normal Ce carrying rate 43g/λ, and it is activated most effectively as a catalytic converter rhodium. Since exhaust gas having stable oxide concentration (an air-fuel ratio) is led in the catalytic converter rhodiums 2, 3 after catalytic converter rhodium 1 of an upstream side is passed, a desired O2 ) storage action (exhaust gas purifying) is achieved even if there is a few Ce carrying rate. As a result that the Ce carrying rate is reduced, error judgement of a downstream side O2 sensor 7 accompanying H2 generation promoted by Ce is prevented.</p> |
