PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for induction-hardening the surface of a material to be worked which can achieve the same or the selective hardness depth, and a device therefor. SOLUTION: In the method for induction-hardening the surface of the material to be worked having the arbitrary outer shape, particularly a cam shaft for internal combustion engine, an inductor 15 surrounding at least the partial part of the material 2 to be worked, is provided. Uniform rotating movement is executed to the material 2 to be worked and at this time, the outline of inner part of the inductor 15 shows the parallel line to the rotating outline of the material 2 to be worked at a fixed connecting distance.
