A body based air bag is a light-weight air bag module that attached to, or mount ed to the vehicle occupant such that when the air bag deploys, its base will stay in contact with the human body as a support to expand outward. The impulsive reaction force due to air bag inflati on, being act at opposite direction of the inertial body movement, will retard the human body bef ore the air bag is functioned as a protective cushion. As a result, the requirement for an instant inflation is minimized so that the damages caused by the air bag is substantially reduced. Si nce the air bag is body based, it is customized to fit vehicle occupants according to their age, ge nder, height and weight. The body based air bag module is easily removable and replaceable. It ca n protect vehicle occupants from all types of accidents regardless of their seating position.
