PURPOSE: To obtain the subject fiber which has a modified cross-section fiber with each specific number and shape of projections on the surface, capable of obtaining a fabric with fluffy, soft and spun silk-toned touch feeling, free from stitch deviations, and excellent in light-shading effect even in the case of a thin cloth. CONSTITUTION: This fiber 1 contains 5-25wt.% of a white pigment, with projections 2 and fine grooves 3 distributed alternately and nearly uniformly on its surface. The respective cross-sections of the projections 2 and fine groove 3 are rectangular or virtually trapezoidal and are continuous in the axial direction of the fiber. The number and dimension of the projections satisfy the following relationships: (1) 15<=N<=35, (2) 0.3<=W<=1, and (3) 1.5W<=H<=3W (N is the number of the projections; W is the width of the projections (μm), H is the height of the projections (μm)).
