The ultrasonic diagnostic device according to the present invention is provided with: an ultrasonic probe; an image forming unit for performing transmission/reception of an ultrasonic beam from the ultrasonic probe to a subject, forming an image from a reception signal outputted from the ultrasonic probe, and generating an ultrasonic image of the subject for each frame; a region distinguishing unit for distinguishing an imaged region of the subject using the ultrasonic image generated by the image forming unit; a probe state determination unit for determining whether the ultrasonic probe is radiating into space or is in contact with the subject; and a device control unit for controlling the region distinguishing unit and thereby not performing region distinguishing when it is determined by the probe state determination unit that the ultrasonic probe is radiating into space, and performing region distinguishing when it is determined by the probe state determination unit that the ultrasonic probe has transitioned from radiating into space to being in contact with the subject. |
