Laser Beam Scanning Assisted Autofocus

An apparatus with autofocus includes a scanning laser projector to provide autofocus assist. The scanning laser projector may project visible or nonvisible light in contrasting patterns to provide passive autofocus assist. The scanning laser projector may include a time-of-flight determination circuit to measure distances to provide active autofocus assist. Passive and active autofocus assist are combined to provide hybrid autofocus assist.

a tunable optic system to focus light received from a field of view; an image capture device coupled to the tunable optic system; a scanning laser projector to emit laser light into the field of view; an image analysis component to receive reflected laser light from the field of view; and an autofocus control circuit to tune the tunable optic system in response to information received from the image analysis component.
