The prevent invention transmits normal-frame-rate and high-frame-rate image data in a satisfactory manner. A basic stream is obtained that includes, as an access unit, encoded per-picture image data of basic-frame-rate image data obtained by applying a mixing process to high-frame-rate image data in units of two pictures that are contiguous in time, and also an extended stream is obtained that includes, as an access unit, the encoded per-picture image data of the high-frame-rate image data. A container of a prescribed format including the basic stream and the extended stream is transmitted. |
