An adapter (10) comprises a body piece (110) with an open container end side and an dispenser end side (113; 1130) opposite to the container end side, and a collar piece (120) arranged around the body piece (110). The dispenser end side (1130) of the body piece (110) has an orifice (1140). The body piece (110) has a longitudinal axis (130) and a cylindrical outer surface (1110). It further has a cylindrical inner surface with a container thread (1170) oriented towards the container end side. The cylindrical outer surface (1110) of the body piece (110) is equipped with a cap thread (1120) oriented towards the dispenser end side (1130). The cap thread (1120) is arranged to interact with an inner thread of a cap (30) for providing a child resistant closure. In a freely rotatable position, the collar piece (120) is connected to the body piece (110) such that the collar piece (120) is freely rotatable relative to the body piece (110) around the longitudinal axis (130) of the body piece (110). The adapter (10) can be used for efficiently and safely connecting a dispenser to a container (20).
