A method for operating an inverter (1) is described, wherein the inverter (1) has a terminal (2) with four conductor terminals (3-6) for the connection of the inverter (1) to three external conductors (L1, L2, L3) and a neutral conductor (N) of an AC voltage supply system (7). Switching elements of a bridge circuit (8) of the inverter (1) are activated in the course of a testing step for creating a zero phase-sequence system, wherein output currents (IL1 ,IL2 ,IL3 ,IN) of the inverter (1) are measured and evaluated with respect to a zero phase-sequence current. The presence of a connection of the neutral conductor (N) to a conductor terminal (6) provided for the connection to the neutral conductor (N) is detected if a zero phase-sequence current that exceeds a predetermined threshold value is detected in the course of the testing step. Otherwise, it is detected that the neutral conductor (N) is not connected to the conductor terminal (6) provided for the connection to the neutral conductor (N). An inverter (1) designed for carrying out the method is likewise described. |
