The invention also provides use of the compounds or salts as modulators of Kv3.1 and/or Kv3.2, and in the treatment of diseases or disorders where a modulator of Kv3.1 and/or Kv3.2 is required, such as depression and mood disorders, hearing disorders, schizopherenea, substance abuse disorders, sleep disorders or epilepsy.

A method of treating schizophrenia, which comprises administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount a compound of formula (Ia): wherein: R1 is halo, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, halo-C1-4alkyl, halo-C1-4alkoxy, or cyano; R2 is H, halo, cyano, C1-4 alkyl or C1-4 alkoxy; with the proviso that when R2 is H, R1 is not in the para position; X is CH or N; Y is CH or N; R3 is C1-4 alkyl; R4 is H, deuterium, or C1-4alkyl; or R3 and R4 can be fused to form a C3-4 spiro carbocyclyl group; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
